Care of your helmet:

A helmet is designed to be weaker than your head. Don’t do things to the helmet you wouldn’t do to your head.

Helmets are sensitive to extreme heat (70°C+) and solvents (dry cleaning fluids).

Cleaning of the interior should be done using Charles Owen helmet cleaning products, foamed detergents or shampoo and water followed by vacuum drying the lining. It is important to use the minimum amount of water as helmets are difficult to dry and easily become mouldy. With any cleaning agent it's important to test a small section to establish any allergic reaction.

After riding leave the helmet in a warm, dry place overnight. Do not dry in front of a fire or on a radiator. Do not store it in a plastic bag before dry. This will reduce the risk of rusting section to establish and allergic reaction.

Mud on velvet is best left to dry and then brushed off. The pile of the fabric can be revived by holding in steam from s boiling kettle (excluding Ayr 8 Classic).

• Heat will melt your helmet. Store it out of direct sunlight and don't wash it in a dishwasher.
• Putting your hair inside affects the fit of your helmet.
• You need two helmets if you wear your hair up as well as out.
• Put your hair tie low down on your head and not inside the styrofoam.
• It pays to find a shop with experienced trained staff to have your helmet fitted.
• Don't use a bicycle helmet as the area of protection is much less than for an equestrian helmet.
