Please wait...Traditionally, hunters or horses that are in strenuous work in the winter months are clipped as soon as their winter coat appears around mid October and then every four to six weeks or as necessary. The last clip of the season should be done before the horse's summer coat grows in, which is dependent on how cold our Spring is that year.
Horses are clipped for the following reasons:
Heartland Saddlery offers professional, experienced & quality mobile clipping service available serving Calgary, Okotoks, High River and the Foothills area. All types of clip available for every horse and pony. Nervous & big horses welcome, difficult horses not a problem and will clip horses under sedation if needed. We clip with sharp blades and professional grade clippers that make easy work of even the largest of horses.
Heartland Saddlery's professional staff offer a variety of clips:

Recommended for horses and ponies in light work that live outside with a blanket on.
The hair is removed from the under belly and upwards between the forelegs and up the lower line of the neck to the lower jaw. Hair is left on the legs and quarters.

Recommended for horses and ponies in light to moderate work that have access to a stable and wear a blanket.
The hair is removed from under the belly, shoulders up to the ears and under the jaw. Hair is left on the legs and quarters.

Recommended for horses and ponies in moderate to hard work that live out during the day and inside at night with a blanket on.
The hair is removed from the neck, jaw, belly, shoulders and thighs up to the level at which the traces in driving harness would run. Hair is left on the legs.

Recommended for horses and ponies in moderate to hard work that are stabled at night and turned out on warmer days with a blanket on.
This is similar to the trace but the hair on the neck and head is removed. Hair is left on the legs as far as the elbows and thighs. The horse looks as though it is wearing a blanket.

Recommended for horses and ponies in moderate to hard work or hairy horses where the owner wants to keep the horse smart looking and with less grooming. Must be stabled with warm blankets on and turned out with blankets only on warm days above -5 degrees Celsius.
Same as the full clip except that the hair is left on the legs as far as the elbows and thighs, and a saddle patch is left on the back.

Recommended for horses and ponies in moderate to hard work or hairy horses where the owner wants to keep the horse smart looking with less grooming.
Must be stabled with warm blankets on and turned out only on warm days above -5 degrees Celsius.
The whole of the horse's coat is removed.
